When my daughter and I came to Adrienne in November of 2007, I
was truly at my wits' end. Born small at 42 weeks gestation, my six
pound, one month old daughter had lost weight since her birth and
had
not regained it. I had already been hospitalized twice for a
mastitis infection so virulent that it had come with a fever of 106
and pain so terrible that stars appeared in my vision every time my
daughter latched on. The hospital lactation staff was supportive, but
the reach of their advice was, "Keep nursing- it will get better."
Unfortunately, it wasn't getting better, and my doctor was pressuring
me to supplement with formula. Unwilling to do so, I called Adrienne
when my daughter was about five weeks old. She was able to see me
immediately and spent an hour with me evaluating Audrey's latch and
suggesting alternative positions. Her compassion and obvious concern
was coupled with an amazing amount of scientific knowledge about

We had an
extremely rocky postpartum period, with nursing being a
particularly immense challenge. Adrienne proved to be extremely
knowledgeable, bold, and faithful when it came to providing advice and
guidance in the face of a great number of roadblocks. Adrienne is
obviously extremely passionate about breastfeeding and puts a great
deal of energy into helping mothers achieve their early parenting goals.

When I came
to see Adrienne, I was ready to stop nursing my baby.
The numerous roadblocks - major oversupply, poor positioning, pain,
anxiety - made for a stressful and miserable nursing relationship. As
I
drove to Adrienne's, I told myself that this was my last shot.
The overall
experience was amazing. Adrienne took her time and really
reviewed everything that had been going on, taking a careful history,
asking questions no one else had asked. Afterwards, she showed me
an instructive video, and even let me borrow a copy. It was only then
that we worked on latching. While I was there, my baby and I had the

happen. It's all natural right? Nobody told me it might not be that
